I’ll always remember this session with Jenny – as we were both so excited for it to be her turn for photos! I had worked with Jenny’s older sister, Julia as well as their cousin Anna on their senior portraits. In addition, I had also done multiple family and sister portraits with them. Needless to say we had been looking forward to this for SO LONG.
Jenny was a Class of 2018 senior rep for us, and so we did her session the May of her Junior year. It was a cloudy overcast day, but the lighting could not have been more perfect! I always think cloudy is best for blondes because there is no direct sunlight to “wash out” your hair.

We started out the day at a local marina. Jenny and her family spend a lot of time near water and around boats, so we wanted to capture a bit of that vibe for her photos. I love the contrast of the white walkway and how the overcast skies bring out the contrast in the background. Her outfit matches perfectly!

We changed outfits and headed to the park inside the marina. Despite the overcast skies it was surprisingly muggy and hot this day! Jenny looks perfect wearing classic white skinny jeans and a bohemian top. Don’t be afraid to wear white for your portrait session, whether as a dress or pants! White is always classic and 100% timeless.

We are always looking for a bit of wind – this gust was actually created by my assistant* using my light reflector! Voila! An instant classic over-the-shoulder headshot for Jenny’s yearbook. *(aka Jenny’s sister Julia – ha!)

Jenny wanted to end the session with a beach and lighthouse – so we headed on over to my favorite location, Discovery Park to wrap up. Luckily we had Jenny’s mom to drop us off down by the lighthouse since there is no parking in that area.

Next, Jenny changed into her last outfit of the day. Her “Little White Dress”. We find that every client has one of these, and is the perfect addition to your Senior Portrait session “must-wear”!

You can see why we love the classic white dress look. It stands out so beautifully against the backdrop, and it’s easy to play the look down with a denim jacket and sandals.

We had so much fun frolicking and playing in the tall grass down by the beach. The wildflowers had just bloomed, which is why I love sessions in May and June. The weather has started to warm up , and the grass and flowers are at their peak. Any later in the year and everything starts to dry up. If you are looking for that lush greenery and flowers, book your session early in the spring or summer!

Don’t forget to set up your session early this year. Wildfire season causes a large amount of re-scheduling in August, and we recommend you book your sessions between May & July for the best temperature, lighting an weather!
