I was so excited for the opportunity to do a Senior Portrait photoshoot at Dairyland, located just north of Seattle in Snohomish. What you probably don’t know about me, is I grew up in Snohomish(!). I love any chance I can get to head up north to the country for beautiful natural and rustic backdrops. There are so many rolling fields, lush greenery and beautiful textures to utilize.
Dairyland is such an amazing and beautiful location, and something a bit more unique than your typically Seattle backdrops. We are happy to add this location to our ULTIMATE package – for no additional fees. Just ask us 3-4 weeks in advance to make arrangements for your session.
On the day we had scheduled to originally do this photoshoot, it was pouring rain, so we re-scheduled to the following week, hoping the rain would hold off. Unfortunately it still rained on us – but that did NOT stop us from having the most amazing time ever! Dairyland has a lot of covered areas, and a “bridal suite” room to get ready in, so we were able to take images, and go dry off in-between outfits as needed. Our lovely makeup artist Ryann Brady was on-site to give Livie’s hair a quick fix half-way through the photoshoot.
As with any private location – treat it with respect and always ask permission. This will ensure that many people for years to come can enjoy the same location as you did.
By this point it was actually pouring rain on us. Luckily for us, we had full access to the property, and this amazing old dairy barn was the perfect structure to work inside. All that natural diffused daylight and leading lines made the perfect backdrop!
We changed outfits again, and then headed for the fields off the long driveway entrance. A few rows of baby Christmas trees are growing there! Despite the rain, we frolicked around the field, making wishes on dandylions and having an all around blast!
The rain and clouds made for the most incredible soft and diffused light – which made the colors so rich and creamy. I love how these turned out, and I almost have no memory of being rained on, except when I go back and watch the behind-the-scenes again. Ha!
For the last look I wanted to capture the infamous “birch trees” that I’ve seen in so many Dairyland photos. What I didn’t realize is that the birch trees are on their main property Woodland Meadows Farm. With permission and directions from the owners we were able to wrap up the last look in the beautiful birch tree lined walkway over at Woodland Meadows.
I can only imagine how stunning this spot will be in the Spring and Summer once the leaves have started to fill in! We did love the look of the moody overcast day for this particular look and how the rustic color of this Free People dress really pops!
